The CDIOP is divided into two phases and is based on the needs of the
individual.
Phase One consists of highly structured educational groups followed by
group therapy. These groups provide basic knowledge of alcoholism and
other drug dependencies. This phase assists the individual in the process
of understanding, identifying, and accepting the disease concept of chemical
dependency, thereby assisting them in accepting their own illness and
the necessity to work toward personal recovery. This phase assists the
individual in the process of identifying their feelings and begin to match
them with their behaviors. Individuals begin to realize the strength derived
from the therapy group and other self help groups and how to utilize these
groups as a support system to aid in their recovery process. Individual
and family sessions are also utilized during this phase.
Phase Two is the continuing care process that continues on for once per
week for a period of one (1) year and allows the individual to continue
to grow in a supportive, safe, and understanding environment. Additional
issues are identified during this phase that can be addressed and solutions
reached either through this group process or by accessing additional services.
